Howitt Road was built on the site of a remaining mansion of Belsize Park.

Howitt Road, Glenilla Road, Glenloch Road and Glenmore Road were built in the grounds of two "gentlemen’s residences". The houses were smaller in scale than in other local roads.

Until 1903, Howitt Road was called Howitt Street.

From 1907, it had easy access to Belsize Park tube station.
