Montpelier Square, SW7
Knightsbridge
Montpelier Square is an upmarket residential garden square located in the Knightsbridge area.

The square was begun in 1824 but the architecture of the housing is mixed, reflecting a process of development which subsequently stretched over nearly three decades. Construction work which had begun at the peak of a development boom, came to a premature halt when the boom collapsed. The leading builder went bankrupt, and only the south side was completed as originally intended.

All sides of the square were finally completed in the early 1850s, together with Montpelier Terrace.

Whilst the square attracts the wealthy now, until the 1920s this was a poor area.

There are private communal gardens in the centre of the square.
