Battle Bridge Lane, formerly known as Mill Lane, underwent its name change in 1891.
Both the names Battle Bridge Lane and Mill Lane were associated with "Battlebridge Stairs." The lane’s historical significance is tied to its location on a watercourse connected to Battle Abbey, which terminated at a mill site along the river. This watercourse was reputedly "arched over" at some point in its history. During the 19th century, the area featured several warehouses, some of which were associated with the leather trade.
Today, Battlebridge Lane runs alongside Hays Galleria and includes a barrier halfway down the road, indicating it as a "private road."
