Pearson Street became Batten Street in 1937

Batten Street was possibly named after Sir William Batten (d.1667), an admiral at the time of the Civil War, on the Parliamentary side. There is no known local connection.

Batten Street was hit by a V1 during the Second World War. The south end was very badly damaged. The area redeveloped around 1959 as the Falcon Terrace Estate.
