Derbyshire Street originated as part of the Willetts estate.
The local streets were named after places associated with the White family who owned the land. Hereford Street originated in 1823. Derbyshire Street, Manchester Street (after 1864 called Menotti Street), Cheshire Street, Sale Street, Mape Street, Ramsey Street and Hague Street all followed in 1826.
