Duncan Terrace, N1

Duncan Terrace is named after Admiral Duncan the commander of the Naval Fleet at the Battle of Camperdown against the Dutch in 1797.

It was built as New Terrace in 1791 by surveyor and builder, James Taylor.

It later changed its name to Colebrooke Terrace - after Sir George Colebrooke who some of the street. Finally it became Duncan Terrace.

The grass strip running in front of the terrace marks the route of the New River which was culverted into a pipe in 1861.
