Hale Grove Gardens leads north off Hale Lane.
Abortive plans were made in 1910 for a garden village on 50 acres north-west of the Mill Hill Broadway station. Some large villas were built along Hale Lane but the Hale itself remained apart until the 1920s. This one early attempt at large-scale building failed, probably because of inadequate public transport.
