Pelton Road was one of the Greenwich streets named after the coal industry of County Durham.

Pelton colliery was situated about 2 miles west-south-west from Chester-le-Street and opened by Kingscote and Co. on 12 August 1835.

The Greenwich road came into existence in 1843.
