Bluegate Field was a poetic name used in the 18th century for a section of Cable Street.
However poetic-sounding, Blue Gate Fields - to its south - was a notorious nineteenth century slum.
By the 19th century Bluegate Field (the road) had become Back Road. In 1868, it was absorbed into Cable Street.
