Full of small terraces, Hampden Street ran west from Harrow Road and boasted a pub, the ’Great Western’. The pub was well-named as the street was dominated by the presence of the Great Western Railway at one end of it.
A footbridge from the railway end allowed access to Westbourne Park Villas on the other side of the tracks.
