Gothick Cottage (early twentieth century) This house - considered one of the most beautiful in the area and a landmark on the Goldhawk Road - was, for many years, the home of a Mr Murcott, a gunsmith. Ten years later the line to Ealing was opened and in 1883 trains started to run through to Hounslow. Initially, the station only had two platforms with one up and one down line running between them; passengers crossed from one platform to the other using the footbridge, which can be seen in the photograph. In 1911 the station was reconstructed, with two island platforms with sets of tracks running on either side, thus allowing for an increase in the number of trains. Turnham Green station, c. 1906 The station was opened in 1869 on the London and South Western Railway from Richmond to the City.
