King’s Leigh, pictured here in 1973, was originally named New Holme and was built c.1897 for Samuel Stevens Hellyer on Westmoreland Road. It was replaced by Kingsleigh Walk in the 1950s.

The market square of Bromley dates from medieval times, when it was granted a market charter in 1205. Bromley’s first charter was granted by King Ethelbert of Kent, in 862, when it was known as ’Bromleag’.
