Force Green Lane had a tollgate leading into Westerham from the east.

The charge was 4 pence per horse ďż˝" so if a wagon and four horses went through the toll was one shilling and fourpence but if they returned the same day they did not have to pay on the return journey. There was a small gate at the side of the large gate for foot people and prams. An adjoining toll gate controlled the road from Westerham Hill.

What was effectively a cross-roads was re-aligned in 1827, and at that point, the little toll-house which stood on the corner in this photograph was pulled down and the tollgates removed.
